  • # 525 - I finished a (short) story

Yes, I know, Conscience. Someone ought to blog more often.

I finished a story the day before yesterday. It's only 7500 words long, but I am just so proud that I kept on writing till it was finished, instead of losing motivation on the halfway, as I usually do. It's a fairy tale, that I began writing when I was still in Bible School. At least most of it is written in a classic fairy tale style. It was really hard to maintain that style towards the end, but I am still happy with the result. I didn't show it to my mom and sis yet. It was meant to be a surprise. Maybe I'll whip up a handwritten copy for my six-year-old niece. I bet she'd like that. Kristian read all of it but the last three pages. He is kind of busy moving these days, but I hope he can take the time to read the rest soon. I am so eager to hear his response. I should also send a copy to my friend Heidi. She swallows up all my stories. I love that :)

I bought an external DVD-drive for my new netbook. So finally Kristian and I could watch a movie in my apartment. It works really well. And I can get my newest albums (Flatfoot 56 and Bryan Adams) onto the iPod. Good stuff.

As I mentioned, Kristian has finally moved to town. He's still a 40-minute bike ride away from me, but it's better than two hours by train. On Saturday we are going to his uncle and aunt's combined 120th birthday. It'll be my first meeting with a bigger get-together of his family, so I am a little nervous!

Work is okay. It's been really sunny and warm these days, so I got quite a tan on my arms from riding across town on my bike for hours every day.

That's it for tonight. See you later. .

Hey! Congrats on your short story. I simply love that you also have a #1 fan (Heidi). Reading it gave me a huge grin on my face =D  I have a best friend that has been reading my stories since I was 8 years old. I think having such a person in ones life is really important for a young writer (or an old one for that matter...)

    Keep up the good work!

@jcwusthoff - Oh yes, it's very important to have at least one 100% faithful reader. I actually think I have got three now: Heidi, my mom and Kristian :)

I'm gonna visit your blog :)

That's a pretty long short story!  Congrats on finishing it.    Sound like you've been pretty busy lately.  Having a nice summer?

  • elfthoughts

@dreamyimagination - Yes, I'm having a quite good summer, but as you could tell already, very busy. I think work is taking just a little too much of my time! But I really have no choice, because I need the money. I am just so happy about that story. I'm thinking of sending it to a publisher. Maybe it could go as a book for 6-12 year old children or something...
